SAINT ANTHONY

One of my teachers always said that when she lost something she’d say a short prayer to Saint Anthony, who is the patron saint of lost things, and she’d always find it. I’ve lost pens, papers, books, my mobile phone, the mobile case it came in, once my car, my house, and it could be argued that I’ve lost my mind on multiple occasions. When I was younger, I’d try saying that prayer to Saint Anthony and I never found a thing. Of course adults were always saying stupid things like that to me. Once I turned 15, like any other teenager, I wanted to go to driving school so I could be ready to get my license the next year. My parents then told me that only rich people got drivers’ licenses when they were that young. I would have respected them far more if they had simply said they didn’t want to pay for any of it. I paid for driving school myself and got my license, though then I didn’t drive for months because I had no insurance. And I still didn’t get a car for another few years, but I was still able to drive. At least, I had that.

PURCHASING MY SITE

I was so excited. I bought my own website. I got some back links. I even did some keyword research and peppered my website with the keywords I got. Then I wrote my first blog entry about how I hate shoveling snow in the winter. I posted some pictures, a few jokes that I scoured the online world for, and then I was ready and set to go. I waited patiently and checked every hour to see how many hits I was getting. I got 1, then 2, and when I checked later there was 17. 17! Awesome! Awesome! But then the next 3 days only showed 3 hits coming to my site. After that, none. What was wrong? Wasn’t my website interesting? Wasn’t I interesting? I put a lot of effort into this website. In fact, I put my heart and soul into it. What was wrong with everyone because I know it couldn’t have been me. No! Not at all! Something was wrong with everyone else! Yes! That had to be it! People were just too used to dull, ordinary websites and had never seen anything like mine before. Maybe they hadn’t heard anything about mine! In fact, I bet a great majority of the world’s population just hadn’t signed onto the Internet for a few days. Well, I bet that would change soon.

HISTORICAL TRIVIA

I never knew before that I lived a few blocks away from Beer Baron Road. In fact, I didn’t even know there was a Beer Baron Road at all. But then I was reading through this Wicker Park Chicago neighborhood directory and saw that Hoyne (I don’t know if it’s a street or an avenue) used to be a whole row of beer barons who hid and stocked up beer during prohibition days. There’s all these odd bits of historical trivia all over the city. Last summer, I went to Old Town Tatu, which I think is located in either Irving Park or Old Irving Park. Anyway, the building is quite old and haunted. It reminded me of an old church actually. Nothing happened to me while I was there. No invisible hands swept up the needles and try to mark me with ink or broke mirrors against the walls. Which, actually, somewhat disappointed me. I’ve been to more than one haunted building and I’ve never seen anything happen ever. At least once I’d like to be freaked out. Why can’t I see a skeleton in a mirror or watch blood pour down from the walls and form letters on the floor? Why does my life have to be so normal?

HUGE EXAM

I just got done talking to my boyfriend on the phone. He got us USC Trojans tickets! I'm so thrilled about it right now! I started jumping up and down and screaming the minute I put down the phone. He played a little trick on me. He knew this entire time how much I was looking forward to this game and he kept telling me he wasn't going to get tickets. He made up some excuse about how busy he's been with his classes and how he has a huge exam on same night as the game. I should've figured it out, but I think I was too upset to really see what he was doing. All I had to do was take a closer look at the calendar where he penciled in his entire schedule. In fact, after I got off the phone and walked over to it he actually wrote “USC Trojans game” on it and there's a tiny smiley face drawn next to it. He kept telling me he wished he could see my reaction. I can't wait until he comes home from work. I'm counting down the hours. I want him to see how happy I am about this!
