ENGLISH LITERATURE

I majored in English literature during college with an emphasis on ancient British literature (like Beowulf). However, I was able to take more than a few electives and made sure I took some business and economics courses so I’d know about fair debt, debt management, how to pay my taxes, balance my checkbook, have a general idea of how the local and national economies are doing, and more. I was never interested in changing majors or becoming an extremely well read accountant or tax analyst, but I figured knowing all that would do me good. With the amount that I read, I always knew that I could find work as an editor at a publishing house, but, regardless of my chosen field of employment, I still want to know what’s going on in the world. Why are gas prices climbing and climbing? Why is the tax what it is in the state of Illinois? What is the actual value of one American dollar? It all helps. I’m obviously not going to be reading book after book about economics in modern day America and really understand everything that author’s trying to say, but it will make a better all-around person. That’s what’s really important.
